I was born on the 31st of December 1963 and grew up in a small town in the south West of England called Bridgwater. Anybody who has ever travelled from Bristol south along the M5 towards Exeter will remember Bridgwater as being the place where you exclaimed “Christ what´s that smell?!” - Bridgwater
once being home to British Cellophane or British Smellophane, as we knew it - BCL
was recently shut down by
Innovia
as part of a production rationalisation.
Having finally survived the smell until my 16th Birthday I set out in search of excitement and learning at the same time (yes, the two items aren't mutually exclusive) and joined the
british Army as an Apprentice. After qualifying as an electronics engineer and serving in total 7 years with HM Army, I decided to look for more excitement in the form of a new career in Sales and Marketing. One thing led to another and I started working as a packaging consultant for a Japanese company in the Benelux countries. From here I progressed into pre-marketing. I currently work as Industrial Sales Manager, Northern Europe (means Benelux, UK, Germany, Austria and Switzerland) for ExxonMobil Chemical Films, which is a subsidary of ExxonMobil Corporation
My responsibilities include advising companies about the choice of
labelling materials to gain the maximum POS impact
for their product. Although being english, I have lived the last
22 years in Dortmund, Germany - a city of around 600.000 Inhabitants renowned for being the Beer capital of Europe, if not the World.....
My Hobbies: Apart from the obligatory dabbling in the Internet - courtesy of Prima e.V I enjoy Basketball (due to my height I don´t have to jump too high to score) Chess and reading, all of which take a backseat to Motor-racing - regardless whether it be Formula 1, Nascar Racing or Rally Cross. More often than not, you can find me on various IRC Channels (/Nick Wobbly), mainly #germany so why not say Hello? If I´m online and don´t answer, it´s not that I´m ignoring you - okay, so I might be ignoring some of you out there :) but perhaps I´m
just away from the keyboard.....
Being english, I have been blessed (cursed?) with that english affliction: a love of Monty Python and other similar types of Humour. But what can you do after having watched all episodes 23 times, being able to repeat the Parrot sketch in parrot fashion (sorry for the pun :) inserted a tape recorder up your left nostril to be able to play the French National anthem with a finger up your nose or even held a conversation with the local cheese shop about the advantages of having a cheese shop not contaminated with cheese? The look no further - help is at hand - or rather, here.
Why Wobbly? The english military wants to get as much out of their apprentices as possible and therefore the studytime is cut from 5 years down to 3. At the University, you could see who were studying Electronics because their heads would wobble from side to side from
- too much knowledge absorbed in too short a time or
- the shaking of the head signified some ancient ritual meaning I haven´ t got a clue what he was talking about
which eventually led to all Electronics Engineers being given the nickname “Wobblies” (being the Plural of Wobbly).Upon wanting to join Prima e.V I needed to think of a suitable sitename - hence the old nickname was revived......
Wobbly - the PC:
My Computer is based around an
Intel Quad Core Q6600 CPU
running at 4 x 2.4GHz on an
ASUS Board with
4 GB RAM.. Graphics are controlled by 2 SLI linked GeForce
8800GT boards with each 512 MB DDR3 RAM.
This setup has proven itself ideal for messing
around in FSX
with details set to maximum - the effects are
stunning, to say the least.
